Sean approaches performance by drawing from a wide variety of artistic traditions, from classical violin and singing, to character acting and various traditions of physical theatre. Through improvisation and collaboration within these well-developed skill-sets, he seeks unique projects that subvert genre and defy expectation.
He began his training as an actor at Brown University before moving to NYC and joining the resident acting company at The Flea Theater. He completed his MFA in theatre at Sarah Lawrence College and has performed in all manner of styles from experimental music-theatre to comedic film. Sean frequently creates new work in collaborative ensembles through multi-disciplinary approaches. |
Sean also teaches mask and puppetry workshops influenced by his explorations in Balinese mask, Lecoq Technique, commedia dell’arte, Noh theatre, Butoh, and Kathakali. He has studied puppetry and movement under Dan Hurlin, Lake Simons, Per Brahe, Norman Taylor, Richard Crawford, David Lane, The Old Trout Puppet Workshop, and The Big Nazo Lab. His holistic interdisciplinary approach to teaching blends fabrication and design principles with psycho-physical gesture and improvisation.
